Inverter Finder

Compare regular inverters by brand, voltage, and power.

About the Inverter Finder

The Inverter Finder lists regular (non-hybrid) inverters and lets you filter by brand, battery voltage, power rating in watts or kW, and whether it uses a toroidal transformer. Sort the results to line up the models that fit your load and budget.

A regular inverter only converts DC battery power into AC for your appliances — it does not have a built-in solar charge controller, so it cannot charge batteries from solar panels on its own. That makes it the right pick when you already have a separate charge controller, or when you're building a battery-and-inverter backup without panels. If you want one unit that charges from both solar and grid, look at the Hybrid Inverter Finder instead.

Choose an inverter rated comfortably above your peak load so it can handle surge from motors and compressors. If you're not sure how long a given inverter-and-battery pair will run your appliances, check the Power Duration calculator first.

Inverter Finder FAQ

Common questions about choosing a power inverter.

What is the difference between an inverter and a hybrid inverter?

A regular inverter only converts DC battery power to AC — it has no built-in solar charge controller, so it can't charge batteries from panels. A hybrid inverter has an MPPT charge controller built in and can charge batteries directly from solar and the grid. Use this finder for regular inverters and the Hybrid Inverter Finder for hybrids.

What size inverter do I need?

Add up the wattage of the appliances you'll run at the same time, then pick an inverter rated comfortably above that to cover startup surge from motors, pumps, and compressors. Filter by power rating to see inverters in your target range.

What does 'toroidal' mean for an inverter?

Toroidal refers to the transformer type. Toroidal transformers are typically more efficient, run cooler, and are quieter than standard laminated ones, though they can cost more. Use the toroidal filter if that matters for your build.

Can I charge batteries from solar with a regular inverter?

Not by itself — a regular inverter has no solar charge controller. You'd need a separate solar charge controller (see the Solar Charge Controller Finder) or a hybrid inverter that has one built in.
